Typography: A Manual of Design (1st edition 1967) by Emil Ruder is the timeless textbook from which generations of typographer and graphic designers have learned their fundamentals. The author, Emil Ruder, a Swiss typographer who thaught in that field for over twenty-five years and was one of the first to abandon the conventional rules of traditional typography and create new laws that satisfied the requirements of a new typography. This book (some call it masterpiece) is considered by many to be the quintessential textbook on typography.
