Crafts is concerned with the importance of making. From the clothes we wear, the houses we live in or the bike we ride to work, the magazine believes that a sense of craft should permeate every facet of our lives.

Crafts Issue No. 267 July/August 2017 On the cover, we feature the enigmatic work of Edinburgh-based glass and ceramic artist Andrea Walsh, one of twelve finalists for the prestigious Woman’s Hour Craft Prize.

Inside, to celebrate the opening of the Crafts Council’s new blockbuster exhibition States of Play in Hull, we invite the organisation’s creative director Annie Warburton to explore the relationship between playfulness and making, and visit one of the exhibiting artists, designer and maker Pascal Anson at his studio by the sea.

Also in this issue: artist Emma Hart’s inspirations; Jeremy Myerson, Konstantin Grcic and Sean Sutcliffe on the legacy of Parnham Furniture College; Studio Gutedort collaborate with female makers in Jordan; ceramic artist Phil Eglin’s latest work; Glenn Adamson reviews Rei Kawakubo at the Met and Tanya Harrod considers Eric Gill’s contentious legacy.
